My father was a high school math teacher. He could read a lab report the way most of us read a menu. He knew exactly what his numbers meant, what the research said about his diabetes and high blood pressure, and what he was supposed to do about it. Still, knowing never quite became doing. He passed away in 2022 from an untreatable cardiac condition, and I have spent every year since thinking about closing the gap between knowing what to do and doing it.
